In terms of layout, place your images at the beginning of the email. Viewer’s tend to scan emails to see if it’s worth our full attention, and if it has an image they’re more likely to stick around and read the whole thing.
An article from Comm 100 suggests placing your image within the top two inches of your email since “the typical email preview pane is horizontally aligned… and less than two inches in height.” Another reason that it is beneficial to put photos and graphics right up front is to make it more mobile-friendly. People are more likely to take in an image when viewing content from their mobile device than large sections of text.

Text

All this talk about image, we can’t forget about text. You don’t want to completely take out text from your email content because many email providers may not display your images. And if the images do appear, you still want to support your image with quality content that drives the message home.

Adobe recommends using “40 percent images and 60 percent text” in email marketing. This is a good place to start, but also remember to consider your audience. Think about what kind of content and information they are looking for, and build your layout around your message.

Subject Line

Keep your subject line (or headline) under 50 characters to hit that sweet spot and increase email open rates. Also, be mindful of what you are saying. Remember that the holidays are a season where people are overwhelmed with sales pitches.
